Punctuality

If your child is starting school for the first time we would stress that you stay only a few minutes in the classroom with him/her for the first week. Thereafter please leave your child inside the main door or at the gate. In this way you will help develop the child’s confidence and assurance.
This is the school policy for parents of all pupils and co-operation of all parents in this matter would be greatly appreciated by the Staff. As parents will appreciate, pupils do settle more quickly when anxious parents are out of sight!

Wearing of Jewellery Policy
The wearing of jewellery during PE lessons or where there is a likelihood of physical contact, e.g. during outdoor sporting activity or playtimes may constitute a health and safety hazard to pupils. The ‘Safe Practice in Physical Education’ document published by The Association of Advisors and Lecturers in Physical Education states, in Par 7.3.1:-
‘Many pupils wear personal items to school which will constitute a hazard if worn for physical activity. Watches, rings, chains, bracelets, and other adornments must all be removed before the physical education lesson. A system should be instituted where this becomes part of the regular routine of changing and the registration of attendance. Pupils should be consistently reminded of this requirement and a check carried out to ensure compliance before activity begins.’
With regard to outdoor play the same document also states in Par 19.7.1 that for reasons of safety, children should, ‘remove all jewellery, for example, watches, bracelets, rings, earrings, and badges with pins.’
In discharging its duty with regard to the health and safety of pupils in respect of the wearing of jewellery, the Board of Governors of The Diamond Primary School has adopted the following policy:-
1. The school adheres to the advice given in the ‘Safe Practice in Physical Education’ document.
2. The wearing of jewellery to school is discouraged with the exception of
¨ one ring.
¨ one watch.
¨ one pair of stud type earrings in the earlobe.
No studs or rings should be worn on any other part of the body.
3. Hair decoration should be simple and practical.
4. Responsibility for the safe keeping of jewellery rests with the pupil.
The help and co-operation of all parents in these matters is appreciated.
